A GOD-LIVED LIFE

What does a God-lived life look like? It looks like Jesus.

God became man and lived life in our place. Christ lived the perfect God-lived life. Living as a Christian, a little Christ, we have the privilege of demonstrating what God looks like in how we live our lives, in living lives that show God.

For four months, God’s Word will be challenging us, and we’ll be challenging one another to live a God-lived life. And that encompasses everything. We will be talking about a life of being a disciple, a life lived for others, a life of hospitality, and a life lived shrewdly.

Each month, we will be introduced to a challenge that we then prayerfully commit to carrying out the rest of the month. These challenges ask us—people who are moved by the grace of God and Jesus’ life and death in our place—to commit to acting on the encouragements to put the Word into practice.

How will we commit to the challenges? As individual members, we are going to fill out a different challenge card each month. This will help to involve our entire family of faith in the challenges and help us encourage each other in the challenges.

MONTH ONE - A Life of Being a Disciple

This month, the particular focus of the God-lived life is that of being a disciple, a learner, one who grows in God’s Word. May God’s Word cause us to crave that pure spiritual milk so that by it we grow up in our salvation.

Our challenge card this month will focus on growing and learning in God’s Word. What’s your biggest motivation for spending time in God’s Word? What’s your biggest obstacle to spending time in God’s Word? What can help you overcome that obstacle? How can you build Bible study and prayer time into your regular routine?

MONTH TWO - A Life Lived for Others

This month, the particular focus of the God-lived life is a life lived for others, a life of generosity. God allows us the opportunity to serve and love one another, especially those who are part of our communities.

Our challenge card this month will focus on being a good neighbor. What makes someone a good neighbor? How can you show God’s love to others by being a good neighbor? How can our church be a good neighbor to our community? How can we be present for others?

MONTH THREE - A Life of Hospitality

This month, we look at the God-lived life as one that opens our lives to others. As we invite people into our lives and our homes, God gives us opportunities to share Jesus as we build relationships with them.

Our challenge card this month will focus on living a life of hospitality—opening our hearts and homes to others. How did Jesus show “radical” hospitality? Think of a time someone showed you radical hospitality. How did that make you feel? How can you reflect the love of Jesus by showing that level of hospitality to someone? How can you be different, like Jesus was different?

MONTH FOUR - A Life Lived Shrewdly

While stewardship of our finances isn’t the only part of stewardship, it is a part of it. God’s Word encourages us to use all of the financial gifts God has given us with an eye on our purpose.

Our challenge card this month will focus on living shrewdly with the blessings and treasures that God has given us. But what did Jesus mean when he encouraged us to be shrewd? Who is someone you know that is a positive example of shrewdness? In what ways are you already shrewd? In what ways are you not shrewd? How can you honor God by managing with intention the gifts he has given you?

May God bless us and strengthen us as we live a God-lived life—a life lived shrewdly!
